2015 Black History Month theme: Our Elders. Our Legacy

The 2015 Black History Month kicked off with a bang at Ben Franklin Place at Centrepointe Drive, with over two hundred guests mingled with VIPs in the council Chambers. Mayor Jim Watson was there to read the proclamation of February as Black History Month, while Minister Yasir Naqvi brought a message of congratulations from the government of Ontario. The organizers, Black History Ottawa kept up tp their usual high standards with performance s by Jaelon Williams and GSU. BHM sponsors RBC Royal Bank of Canada was represented by VP Nneka Bowen who came all the way from their Toronto headquarters. Other VIPs in attendance include Chief of Police Charles Bordeleau, MP Royal Galipeau and COMPAC Co-Chair Awad Loubani.

Black History Ottawa Community Builder award recipients were: Angelique Francis, Jordi Ibalanky, Fay Jarett and Jimmy Sebulime, while the John G. Dennison award went to Bob Dawson.
