Ballet Tropical 2016 - Celebrating 21 Years

A twenty-first birthday is always regarded as something special. For individuals, it marks the coming of age,  but for the School of Afro-Caribbean Dance, led by its irrepressible Musical Director, Suzan Lavertu, it was the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. On Saturday at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans, Lavertu and her young proteges led the enthusiastic audience on a musical and artistic journey, celebrating the rich histories of Africa and the Caribbean. Featuring an exhilarating blend of traditional and modern movement, these young artists (yes, they were more than mere dancers)  provided a not-to-be forgotten evening of music and dance, that left the audience yearning for more.
