Over two hundred people were at the St. Anthony’s Banquet Hall on Saturday to support the Black Canadian Scholarship Fund at its annual December dinner-dance. Under the leadership. Under the leadership of President Elizabeth December-Lovell, the BCSF has been providing scholarships to African-Canadian youth from disadvantaged families, enabling them achieve their dream of college and university education on the road to a successful career. To date, the BCSF has awarded a total of 59 scholarships since its inception in 1996, under the leadership of its late founder, Dr. Horace Alexander. This year, five outstanding young people received scholarships of $6,000 each. Past recipients have gone on to graduate as physicians, one Ph. D, lawyers, scientists, social scientists, information and communication specialists. The 2019 award winners were: Nicole Kamanzi, Precieux King, Adenike Adeyefor, Anael Youssaint and Souban Yousouf.
Special awards in recognition of outstanding volunteerism and philanthropy were given to Rolf Christenson and Deryck Beckles.
