Nunavut Black History Society hosts events to commemorate Black History Month
by
Stephanie Bernard, Vice President, Nunavut Black History Society

The Black History Month School Tour itinerary was as follows…

Nakashuk Elementary School – February 1, 2018  – United Nations Designate speaker, Yasin Kiraga spoke to over 200 students about Canadian Black History, multiculturalism, human rights and the UN International Decade for People of African Descent (first 2 pictures).
Inukshuk High School – February 2, 2018 – Yasin spoke to aprox 80 students about Canadian Black History, Human Rights and the UN International Decade for People of African Descent (rest of pictures).
The aim was to build awareness around these topics and mitigate the ugly monsters of racism, prejudice and intolerance that children and young people at times struggle with.  Both were successful.  Yasin left leaflets and booklets with students and staff on the topics.
