CAWI member Ketcia Peters addresses the guests

Thursday 6 September

More than 100 people were at Ottawa City Hall on Thursday for an information session organised by the City for All Women Initiative (CAWI). Under the theme ” “Gender Inclusive Cities: Municipal Election 2018” , the event focussed on issues that voters should be mindful of in making a choice of candidates to support during the upcoming Ottawa municipal elections on 22 October 2018. Small group discussions were held on the following topics: affordable housing; women’s bureau; public transit; gender-based violence and employment equity. About ten of the aspiring candidates for municipal elective office were on hand to make a pitch for their respective platforms. However, apart from Valerie Assoi who had already been elected by acclamation as a CECCE Zone 6 School Board Trustee, none of the African-Canadian candidates was in attendance.
