The Hellenic Centre on Prince of Wales Drive was a hive of activity on Thursday 24 October 2013, as the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa hosted a “Walk of Fame” banquet to honour outstanding foster parents who had opened up their homes and their hearts to children in care. Marblet “Adassa” Jones and Barbara Reynolds hold the unique distinction of thirty years each of providing not only a shelter, but a safe, loving and nurturing environment for these children to thrive and reach their potential. Since 1983, Adassa has fostered over 120 children. She is currently fostering two teenagers and her plan is to see them graduate from college. Not only did she foster but she also has also adopted and most of her former foster children still visit for a chat or for some good Jamaican food. Likewise, Barb has cared for more than 22 children and youth. Some of the youth stayed for 2, 3, 4 and one stayed for 6 years. She continues to work closely with the children’s parents without judging them as she finds the good in everyone. Despite her very busy schedule, Barb has found time to volunteer with the Linked Up Netball club, Trivia Night and the Snowsuit Fund, as well as attending foster parent conferences, cluster meetings, community of practice training and more.
