On February 7, 2016, for the 13th year in a row, parents and children gathered at the Ottawa Public Library’s Nepean Centrepointe Branch for “Children’s Stories in the Diaspora”, a signature Black History Month event presented by Black History Ottawa in partnership with Jaku Konbit’s Under the Mango Tree program. This annual event family-centred event is designed to promote literacy as well as books depicting Black experiences and characters. Among this year’s readers were author Nessa Sherwood, Jaku Konbit president Ken Campbell and radio host/producer Denise Isaacs. After the reading session, patrons browsed the impressive collection displayed by local bookseller Sankofa Books.
