Councillor Rawlson King

Councillor Rawlson King held a virtual town hall for the African, Black and Caribbean communities on September 26, 2020.  The event included elected officials, professionals and most importantly by community members dedicated to discussing socioeconomic development, poverty reduction and social service investments. Presenters included Councillor Diane Deans, Greg Fergus MP, and City of Ottawa Anti-Racism Specialist Yursa Osman

Rawlson King was elected Ottawa’s first-ever Black city councillor, representing Ward 13, Rideau-Rockcliffe, in a historic 2019 by-election.  He is Chair of the Built Heritage Sub-Committee and was appointed Council Liaison for Anti-Racism and Ethnocultural Relations Initiatives. Councillor King also serves on the Standing Committee on Environmental Protection, Water and Waste Management, and on the boards of Crime Prevention Ottawa, Ottawa Community Housing Corporation and Quartier Vanier BIA.
