Nigerians and their friends celebrated the country’s 53rd Independence Day anniversary on Saturday 5 October, 2013 at the Jim Robillard Hall. With thumping ethnic Nigerian music in the background, it was a night of food, fun and entertainment hosted by the Nigerian Canadian Association of Ottawa, led by President Victor Wilson. In attendance were special guests Yasir Naqvi, Ontario Minister of Labour, Deputy High Commissioner Ambassador Onianwa and Bishop  & Mrs. Jacob Afolabi. Special community leadership awards were given to Yomi Pratt, Fidelis Ifedi, Imeh Inyang, Isaac Okoboh, Biola & Bashiru Agoro, Brenda Obaseki, Bernedette Nwaiwu, Eugene Nzeribe, Godwin Ifedi and Joy Osiagwu.
