Over a hundred people were at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church on St. Laurent Boulevard on Sunday to participate in the church’s Family Day celebrations, which included a fund raiser for the Igbo Women’s Association of Ottawa. Under the amazingly dynamic leadership of their President, Mrs. Ngozi Ebere, the organization was able to raise in excess of $5000, with part of the proceeds going to an orphanage in Nigeria’s Igbo heartland.  For Rev. Fr. Titus Egbue who led the afternoon mass, it was a double celebration as the occasion marked the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a priest. The occasion was also a birthday celebration for Rev. Fr. Emeka Onyeogubalu who assisted Fr. Egbue during the service , and who preached an inspiring sermon on the meaning of family. Highlight of the evening was the children’s performance by Chinaza and her sister Nmasonwa Muoka who delighted the audience with poems and songs in fluent Igbo.
