Several events were held in Ottawa to celebrate the United Nations International Women’s Day. Notable were the National Black Business and Professional Network (NB2PN) and the Black Women’s Civic Engagement Network (BWCEN) International Women’s Day brunch. The event was held on 8 March at Restaurant Prime on Laurier Avenue, with the theme: Women: Tested & Triumphant!  Guest speakers were the newly installed Rev. Cheryle Hanna, Fourth Ave. Baptist Church in the Glebe and Ms. Lynette Cox, Assistant Deputy Minister, Environment Canada. The next day on March 9, there was the 5th Annual “Strength of a Woman” IWD event,  a brunch at City Hall by the University of Ottawa Sigma Alpha Graduate Chapter sorority with the theme: “Snapshot of the Female Mind”.
