Happy Mother’s day Mom!

Mother’s day

By Nwike Osiagwu.

Mothers are specially made to have compassion for people. God indeed wired that aspect into women’s DNA. I do not know all the women in the world, but I can use one as a case study. My mom is a lovely lady; I say this with all sense of humility.  Those who know her well can corroborate my story. Her name is Joy Osiagwu; her life in Ottawa is very simple. She works for a news station called the NTA, based in Nigeria, West Africa with bureaus across the world. My mom combines her hectic schedule with cooking and cleaning, while my brother, sister and I go to school. My Dad is in Vancouver but visits regularly; he is planning to join the family permanently pretty soon. Let’s get back to the subject matter; my mom.

We all used to live in Nigeria where she worked as a reporter and a news presenter for the Nigerian Television Authority. We relocated to Canada and things became a little bit tough for us because it is not easy to make money in Canada, but that is my opinion. However, we are still a happy family. My mother is a Christian (same as my dad) and has a passionate belief in Jesus Christ. She is continually encouraging us to go to church and get to know Jesus as our personal Lord and saviour. She often gets involved with activities and fundraisers to support the community.

Every year during the winter time, she goes back to Nigeria to visit her family. I have not seen much of her family in a while, but I’ve never heard them say a bad thing about my mother. They always say that she is kind and generous towards them. She was in Nigeria last winter to assist my paternal grandmother to Ottawa, took her back after three months and made arrangements for my maternal grand mom to go to my aunt’s house in Atlanta. She contributed over two thousand dollars towards my grandmother’s trip, and she gave that amount without a second thought. She is not afraid of much, and I have never seen her cry.

When someone is sad, she offers her shoulders to comfort them; her sense of humor is incredible. Mom is an excellent cook and can cook many things, but her best delicacies are jollof rice and Nigerian oxtail pepper soup. She tries her best to eat well and stay active. My mother is passionate about education and would not settle for anything less than the best. She worked very hard to get to the position she is in now.

The last time I visited my grandmother in 2008, she said my mom always got good marks in school, but her best marks were in subjects designed for media and English language. She was informed that she has a great speaking voice and should pursue a career in television and broadcasting. She did as she was told and lived a very wealthy life in Nigeria where she made a ton of friends and got married. Now she lives a fair life in Ottawa, sometimes, I remember her life in Nigeria compared to her life in Canada, the difference is just too big. However, she gave up the life in Nigeria just to get her children a good education in Canada. I remember she told me once that life is not always about money but the kind of legacy you leave for your children and generations to come. The comment touched my soul; I can only pay back by becoming the best in my academic endeavor. Happy Mother’s day.

How long does a mother’s love last?

By Kaine Osiagwu.

My name is Kaine Osiagwu and I’m fifteen years old. With every passing day, life has actually gotten more complicated. Having to make new and different decisions has increased the pressure and stress in my life. With this weight, I’ve made mistakes that I want to take back. Sometimes I wonder how much one can put in just to get ready for the future.

However, through the rollercoaster of my journey to adulthood, the one person who has stayed on my side the entire time is my mother Joy Osiagwu. My family relocated from Nigeria in 2009 and our lives changed completely. We try to live a peaceful life in Ottawa but financial challenges keep knocking on our door step. Between the mortgage for the house and the cost of my brother and me playing basketball, and my sister’s gymnastic classes, money can be a major problem. Even with these issues, my mom still manages to support us.

Through thick and thin, my mom has always been my number one supporter in everything I do. She goes out of her way to help me even when I do not need it. I appreciate what my mom has been doing for me. Although sometimes it may be difficult to cope with me, I always try my best to show my mom how much I love her every single day. She is my motivation when I face academic challenges or when it seem like I’m losing a basketball game, I always push myself to try harder in every aspect of my life for the sake of my mom.

I understand it is a mother job to take care of her children, but my mom has done so much more that I have a special place in my heart for her. This makes mother’s day one of the most important days of the year for me. It is a day to show my mom how much I appreciate her tireless efforts.  Sometimes I ask myself; how long does a mother’s love last? Now I know the answer, a mother’s love is forever. My mom will always remain my number one priority and my number one love. Happy mother’s day mom.

Mother’s Day

By Kani Osiagwu.

Mother’s Day is a time to remember how much your mother has been through just to make you happy. There are bad times and good times that you will have with your mom. Spend the time while it lasts. We all have beautiful mothers, on mother’s day do something special for them. There are many ideas out there for your mom to have the best mother’s day. There are great poems like “Bees love honey, you are as sweet as honey, Bankers love money, but I love you more”.

I recommend making something that your mother likes, for example, I will make my mom a breath-taking cake because she is a baker. I think that it would be very nice to give something to your teacher too, because your teacher is like another mother in school. I love my mom because she is ever caring, and I know she will always guide me through life.

Mother’s day is an excellent idea because parents deserve a special day just to relax and feel extra special. My mom is the nicest person that I know because she would do everything and anything just to make me happy. I will make sure that my mother sees that this day is all about her, and she should relax and enjoy it as much as possible.
