Ismail Mohamed, Kitchener – South Hespeler

Ismail Mohamed has a passion for service and giving back. Having immigrated to Canada in 1993 he is acutely aware of the changing demographic of Waterloo Region and the need for participatory leadership. As a community worker involved in addressing issues of housing, education, and human services, he brings many years of experience and skills in navigating issues of community services for youth and the elderly, increased access to funding for small businesses, equity and inclusion. Ismail will be working to connect people with the resources they need to succeed and to contribute to the well-being of their community. This includes access to meaningful employment, adequate housing, and a COVID-19 pandemic recovery plan that responds to the impact experienced in so many ways by our communities. Ismail truly believes in this community. He believes in the greatness of its citizens and has no doubts about the significant changes that we can achieve together.

The Ontario Liberal Party represents Ismail’s vision and values: community-created priorities that provide a clear vision and actionable steps for a better future.

Why I am Running:

With a track record of developing and implementing successful partnerships as a community leader, I am uniquely prepared to serve Kitchener South-Hespeler as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP). My decision to seek to become your MPP is based on my belief in the importance of strengthening communities by valuing the needs of all socio-economic groups.

Kitchener South-Hespeler needs leadership that can work with community members. My entire professional life as a community organizer has been about listening and advising those who have been affected by changes in government policy. Whenever possible, I have partnered with community members and organizations to implement sustainable solutions. I will use these skills to improve the quality of your lives. The Liberal party is the party committed to you, the people.

The Liberal party reflects my commitment to growing the economy while addressing climate change and the environment. It promises to put families, especially seniors, at the centre of public health. It will reinvest in public education which is being gradually defunded by the Conservative party. These education policies are important for the future of our children; they must focus on people and not the interests of big business. If elected I will also advocate for more affordable housing by supporting the drive by municipalities to allow them to require that developers have a portion of what they build be affordable units.

Kitchener South – Hespeler has a diverse population facing a variety of challenges and opportunities. COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how inequitable many of our systems are. I want to use my community skills to unleash the potential in all of us. I believe the policies of the Liberal party will deliver. I want to change how you are represented because I believe that representation means being accessible, listening and using your input to inform policy. I want to partner with you in the creation of a better community and better Ontario. We can do this – TOGETHER!
