On Saturday, August 20, 2022, Mosaïque interculturelle launched the first annual “Salon des arts visuels afro-canadiens” (SAVAC), an exhibition showcasing works created by artists of African descent. The day-long event, which was held at the Maison de la Francophonie d’Ottawa, included works by Ottawa area artists Komi Seshie and Sarah-Mecca Abdourahman (painting), Ama Ouattara and Robert Malinga Chirwa (photography) as well as Dominique Dennery (sculpture). Photography by Haitian photographer Jean-Claude Michel and Montreal fashion designer-textile arts specialist Helmer Joseph were also featured. A number of dignitaries, including Senator Bernadette Clement, former provincial minister Madeleine Meilleur and representatives of the Haitian embassy joined members of the public for this hybrid in-person-virtaul event.
