One Resource Recruitment on Besserer Street was the scene of the very first “Meet and Greet” event introducing Black candidates vying for a seat at the 22 October 2018 Ottawa municipal election. Organised by the Black Ottawa Business Network, the evening featured candidates who have put their names up for either City Councillor or School Trustee.

Guest speaker at the event was Eldon Holder Jr., Chairman & Director of Community of Community Engagement at the Young Leaders Advisory Council (YLAC), and Youth Coordinator, Black History Ottawa. French translation was provided by Cesar Ndema Moussa, President, North South Development Roots & Culture Canada. A second similar event is planned for September. Among the guests at the event were Black History Ottawa President, June Girvan, Black History Ottawa Community Outreach Officer, Sarah Onyango and popular CBC News anchor, Adrian Harewood.
