Chukwunwike Osiagwu

Keeping Up with Chukwunwike Osiagwu.

We celebrate 18-year-old Chukwunwike Osiagwu as he graduates from St Peter High School in Orleans as a consistent Honour Roll student and an Ontario Scholar.

His classmates also nominated him to speak as the Valedictorian for the class of 2021.

Osiagwu will be studying Biomedical Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa.

Why focus on Chukwunwike Osiagwu as many students graduated with honours and similar courses of study from other high schools? A backstory would give insight into the feature on Osiagwu.

Chukwunwike was featured for his academic excellence in Grade six as the best graduating student from St John Paul II Catholic School in Pineview, Ottawa, in our August 2015 edition.

He also won the Director of Education Award presented annually to a student in Grade six who best exemplifies the gospel values of Faith, Community, Partnership, Persons, Excellence, Justice and Stewardship.

Six years later, Chukwunwike Osiagwu has proven that academic excellence is more than making good grades, as captured in a conversation with our reporter-

“Academic excellence in my opinion is about developing your intellectual capacities and skills to serve humanity. In addition, I learned from my parents and teachers that self-confidence, friendships, persistence and purposeful leadership are the best virtues to make life easier for our world.” Osiagwu said.

Judging from the quality of his line of thought, Chukwunwike is a promising and engaging young man. However, he says his belief in friendship as a substantial component of good leadership hinges on a great attitude of social justice, recognition of cultural differences and what these qualities add to diversity for a genuinely multicultural Canadian society.

The young Canadian of Nigerian descent carefully selects his friends from different backgrounds but with a similar mentality. He calls it dedication to studies and service to humanity.

His parents, Joy and Kenneth Osiagwu, migrated to Canada in 2009 to give quality education and a great future to Chukwunwike, his older brother Kainechukwu, and younger sister Kani.
