613/819 Black Hub is a community advocacy organisation that brings people of African descent in the national capital region together to coordinate volunteer-led efforts to address anti-Black racism through systemic change primarily in education, justice , employment, business and politics. Last Saturday, the group hosted a strategic meeting at the Rideau Community Hub on St. Laurent Boulevard. Attended by some 25 Black community leaders and stakeholders and under the leadership of Richard Sharpe and Robin Browne, the meeting addressed critical issues facing the region’s Black population including: establishment of the city of Ottawa’s anti-racism secretariat; policing, school board parent and student surveys, the UN decade of people of African descent, as well as updates from the Federal Employee Black Caucus and the Federation of Black Canadians.
