Saeed Ali is a full time student in the Police Foundations program at Algonquin College. But he still finds time to give back to his community through volunteer work.  On Monday 3 November, he joined other members of the Ottawa Police Advisory Committee as proud winners of the Youth Engagement Award at the Crime Prevention Ottawa Community Safety awards.
Although the Ottawa Police Service Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was created two short years ago, it has already made a tangible impact on safety in our community. The
Committee consists of a youth ages 13 to 24 representing the full diversity of Ottawa. They meet regularly to discuss trends, identify issues and plan outreach initiatives to
connect youth with the police. Committee members visit communities to chat with youth about crime and safety, and to provide a forum for their voices to be heard. This
direct contact with their peers allows them to prioritize their efforts. The participating youth have developed resource cards to educate and inform young people about
issues such as web safety, cellphone theft prevention and safer partying. The YAC has also partnered with Crimestoppers’ youth outreach program to help youth report crime
in our community
