by Monty Domingo

On April 23rd, 2016 at the Margaret Rywak Community Building, the community came together in grand style to celebrate the 55th  Independence anniversary of their country of origin. The event was hosted under the auspices of the Honourary Consul of Sierra Leone to Canada, Mr. David Pratt who represented the Ambassador Designate to Canada, Mr. Bockarie Kortu Stevens. In his opening address the Chairman, Mr.  Monty Domingo gave a brief history of the country. Prior to the evening event, Monty brought the children together for a cultural teaching in the afternoon with his focus on the dimensions of cultures. He compared the culture of Canada to that of Sierra Leone and why their parents do certain things.

Mr. David Pratt gave a brief background of his appointment to the honorary consul position for Sierra Leone.  He elaborated on what Sierra Leone stands to benefit from the current Canadian government, with the upcoming changes to policies that will strengthen the relationship between Canada and Africa in general.

The evening was climaxed with good Sierra Leonean dishes dinner time and cultural performance. It was fun!!!!!!
