The happy bride and groom walk down the aisle

15 October 2016

Friends and members of the Eke and Azonye families gathered in numbers at the stately St. Patrick’s Basilica in downtown Ottawa, on Saturday 15 October,  to witness the marriage of Solomon Eke and Marian Azonye. Among the guests were the bride’s uncle Tony Okey Onwuachi, and the groom’s elder brother Lucky Eke, both of whom had flown in from Nigeria specially for the occasion. Other guests came from as far as the USA, Toronto and Montreal. The bride’s mother, Nkeiru Antoinette Onwuachi was resplendent in her elegantly made “aso-oke”, specially designed and imported from Nigeria. The reception was held at the Canadian Museum of Nature on Metcalfe Street, with over 200 guests, an event that included the Igbo traditional wedding rites: “wine carrying”, “bride price” and “dowry offerings”. The happy couple spent their honeymoon in Jamaica.
