Kathy Grant, Robert Downey and Sarah Onyango at the Canadian War Memorial on Remembrance Day

November 11, 2014

Three weeks after Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was murdered at the National War Memorial, visitors joined thousands of Ottawa residents on the same sacred location to remember all those who have given their lives in service to their country. Dignitaries were there too in numbers: Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Governor General David Johnston, and Princess Anne on a special visit with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence from England.  Ottawa’s black community were well represented with Legacy Voices founder, Kathy Grant; Robert Downey whose paternal grand father George Alexander Downey had served with honour in World War 1 with the No. 2 Construction Battalion, and our own Sarah Onyango, Community Outreach Officer with Black History Ottawa.
