On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of independence,  Trinidad and Tobago held a special event, termed “Trinbago” at Ottawa’s Lansdowne Park, to showcase the culture and traditions of the Caribbean country. The over 200 guests gathered at the Horticulture building were treated to a fiesta of music, dance, food and displays. The fashion show presented by former Miss Universe, Wendy Fitzwilliam, featured exotic outfits designed by students from the University of Trinidad and Tobago.  The country’s High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency Garth Chatoor was on hand to welcome the guests and participate in a surprise United Way Community Builder award ceremony to two of Ottawa’s “Ambassadors of Caribbean Culture”, David Bostic (aka, DJ David Supersound) and Ashton Hughes, founder of the Nepean Panharmonics Steel Band.
