Women forum highlights progress in AIDS treatment

Sandy Hill Community Centre on Somerset Street West, was the scene of the 2018 Voices for Women’s Health forum, organised and hosted by the AIDS Committee of Ottawa (ACO).  With over fifty participants in attendance, the event featured presentations by Brook Lynn Davies, Community Support Worker – Trans Health with Centretown Community Health Centre  titled: Trans Inclusion and Access Barriers; Dr. Mikey McGuinty, Research Fellow with the University of Ottawa Infectious Diseases program on HIV treatment updates; and Jacueline Boisvert, Outreach Social Worker with the Ottawa Hospital on Hepatitis C treatment updates. These were followed by two panel discussions, by women and youth living with AIDS respectively, during which they described their respective lived experiences.

The welcome and introduction of keynote speakers was done by Haoua Inoua, Manager of Education & Prevention Services with the AIDS Committee of Ottawa, while volunteer Mamie Kapend was the MC.
