Some one hundred family, friends and academic faculty members were at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management on Laurier Avenue, to participate in a special celebration, in honour of the 2019 college and university graduates who are of African, Caribbean or Black heritage.  Hosted for the second successive year by Ottawa’s leading youth-oriented community organisation, the Young Leaders’ Advisory Council (YLAC), the special ceremony showcased the achievements of graduates from Algonquin College, la Cité collégiale, University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The keynote speaker was Canada’s former Governor General, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, who exhorted the new graduates to use their newly acquired credentials to be the agents of change in world that is both exciting and challenging.
