Good morning all

Hope you are all doing well and gearing up for the Christmas festive season.  For the December edition we offer events in support of people in need, with our Top Story being : Tonight-for-Tanzania 2017 fund-raiser, organised by the incredible and irrepressible Petronila Michael. This is followed by another of Ottawa’s stalwart volunteers, Jimmy Sebulime, who hosted the annual Uganda Fund-raiser for the Boys and Girls Club he had founded in his homeland. Super-mum Patricia Harewood continues to chronicle her journey into parenthood with her piece: Planet Zees : Parenting ABC’s. We also bring you news from one of the most dynamic ethnic groups in Ottawa, as the Igbo community celebrates their 2017 harvest Thanksgiving service.

Psychologist and human resources expert, Dr. Helen Ofosu writes on: How to stay relevant in the era of artificial intelligence. Under Your Health, heart specialist Dr.  Habibat Aziz Garuba provides insight into Hypertension, one of the medical conditions to which Black people are at great risk. Newcomer columnist Ayan Jama brings us up to date on the AIDS endemic the unspoken condition that afflicts much of our community. Our Youth Editor Kika Otiono continues her incredible life journey with yet another award, this time for academic excellence at Carleton University. Way to go Kika! We report on another award winner, Canadian Somali Mothers’  Association, which received the prestigious Crime Prevention Ottawa award.

All these and more in the December 2017 edition.

Here is the result of the November survey:

Do you support the decision by Quebec to ban face coverings for people giving or receiving public services?

Yes 25%                                                                                                                                                                                                           No 75%

Thank you to all who voted. Don’t forget to take part in the December survey: Do people of colour have reason to join in celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary?
