Good morning all
As we enter the month of April, we welcome two appointments to our editorial team. Kika Otiono, well known as a regular contributor and of course as Youth Editor, has now moved up to the position of Associate Editor. Ililli Ahmed, another regular contributor is our new Youth Editor. The addition of these two award-winning , vibrant and passionate student community leaders, will certainly add spice to our already acclaimed community publication.
The Anti-Black Racism Town Hall meeting was the easy choice for Top Story in the April edition, as it brought into focus one of the most troubling issues facing the Black community in the country. The 200 odd people who crammed into council chambers at City Hall made enough noise for the authorities to sit up and listen. Regular contributor Robin Browne has also added his voice with his own perspective of the event in our Guest column. Under Social, we bring you the report of a most entertaining concert by classical pianist Ghana-born John Kofi Dappah, who now calls Ottawa home. Youth Editor Ililli Ahmed shares her experience shadowing RBC President Tina Sarellas, in our Youth In Action Team page. Community Builder award winner Clarissa Arthur is featured in our monthly Interview as she shares her journey as a teenage single mother to a successful career as Manager of an NGO. Financial guru Meiz Majdoub continues his series on Managing Your Money with his piece on the benefits of financial planning. Speaking of People Making A Difference, we bring you news of the successes of William Onyeaju, Stachen Frederick and Isobel Granger in their various fields. We welcome new columnist Myreille Matsika-Lang who makes her debut with her poem: African Rhapsody. Under Religion we bring you Bishop Jacob Afolabi with his monthly sermon: Sleeping at prayer time. All these and more in the April edition of Black Ottawa Scene.
