Good morning all

Hop all of you readers are having a good summer. For the Nigerian community in Ottawa,  it’s been a difficult one, losing two young men in tragic circumstances within two months; Nosa Ogbebor (featured last month), died during a soccer game, and 18 year-old Collins Obiagboso (whose obituary is featured in this edition) whose body was found in the St. Laurent river in Montreal.

On a more cheerful note, our Top Story features well known community leader and activities, Denise Siele, as she launches her campaign to represent Nepean (Ottawa) in the Federal Parliament, under the auspices of the Progressive Conservative party. Other stories we are carrying this month include the award of the Nelson Mandela award to iconic Black politician Jean Augustine, Dapo Agoro Fun Day, Annual African Festival, TrinBago Day and House of PainT hip hop challenge. On a more somber note, we bring you news that highly respected Justice Donald McLeod, is facing a judicial discipline tribunal for his alleged role in the leadership of the newly formed Federation of Black Canadians. Psychologist Helen Ofosu brings us her usual insight in the workplace environment on dealing with an “impossible job”.  In his monthly sermon, Religion columnist Bishop Jacob Afolabi surmises on “building without an architect”. Our Interview this brings you our conversation with Nepean MP Chandra Arya.

Our newest columnist Hasina Kamanzi makes her debut with a review of the record: APESH*T: the Power of Images, released jointly by Beyonce and Jay Z; while veteran writer Sol Giwa provides his insight into police and community relations.

Here is the result of the August 2018 poll:

Are you concerned that gun violence would spread from Toronto to other parts of Canada?

Yes 85%

No  15%

Thank you to all who voted. Do remember to take part in the September poll:

Do you feel Canada should continue the practice of granting automatic citizenship to children born in this country, regardless of whether the parents live in Canada or not?

And remember to keep the Letters to the Editor going; we appreciate your feedback and suggestions on how to improve your own community news magazine.

Remain blessed!
