On November 13, 2013, H. E. Ambassador Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto and his wife, Prudência de Sousa Carneiro da Silva, hosted a reception at the Chateau Laurier on the occasion of their country’s 38th anniversary of independence. Among the guests were fellow diplomats as well as local community leaders of various nationalities. Angola gained its independence from Portugal on 11 November 1975. Angola is a member state of the African Union, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, the Latin Union and the Southern African Development Community.
