George Floyd’s brother, Terence Floyd, was keynote speaker Black History Month gala at Museum of History
Over 400 people from all walks of life were at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau to celebrate the annual Black History Month in the national capital. Jointly hosted by the University of Ottawa Students’ Union, Equal Chance, Young Black Professionals and Global Black Coalition, it was a night to remember as notable figures took the stage to share their life journeys with the guests. The evening kicked-off with an exuberant show by the renowned Burundi drummers, Remesha Drums, and rounded off by the extremely talented Phylissia Ross who kept guests dancing on stage at the end of the evening. With Equal Chance founder Gwen Madiba, as MC, the Black History Month gala theme was titled: “February and Forever” with Keynote Speaker, Terrence Floyd, brother of the late George Floyd and co-founder of the “We Are Floyd” organization.

Former Governor General, Michaelle Jean was there, as well as Black History Ottawa President, Elder June Girvan. Also present was another inspirational speaker, Wes Hill, business mogul and founder of Black North initiative. The event also featured recognition awards to students and community leaders for their innovative volunteer work and advocacy.
