From May 5-13, 2014, the Canadian Film Institute (CFI), in collaboration with the Embassies of Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, and Portugal, 3rd Annual Portuguese Language Film Festival at Library & Archives Canada. The Festival wrapped up on May 13, with the Angolan documentary I Love Kuduro directed by Mário Patrocinio, a recent selection at Toronto’s HOTDOCS Film Festival. Before the screening, a local dance group gave the audience a taste of the sensual kizomba and kuduro that have become a synonymous with Angolan popular culture. After the screening, His Excellency Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto, Angola’s ambassador to Canada, hosted a reception and a draw for a trip voucher to a Portuguese-speaking country of the winner’s choice, courtesy of Iberica Travel. Headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal, The Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP) / Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries was established on July 17, 1996 with seven countries: Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
