25 December

With the death of one of their prominent members, Fidelis Ifedi, on 30 November, the Christmas season was a rather sombre one for the Igbo community in Ottawa. However, they rallied together to celebrate the festive season in the traditional manner with a party organised by the Igbo Association of Ottawa on Saturday 17 December at the Tom Brown arena on Scott Street. This was followed by a mass on Christmas Day, Sunday 25 December, hosted by the Igbo Catholic Community at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on St. Laurent Boulevard. Both occasions provided opportunities for their families and friends to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus, a major Christian event in the calendar of Igbo people all over the world. Kudos to the leadership of the Igbo Association by its President, Dr. Nduka Otiono and the Igbo Catholic Community led by Ike Nnebe.
