Good morning everyone

Welcome the April 2026 edition of Black Ottawa Scene. Our Top Story for the month is the Black History Month celebration by the Carleton University Social Work department on 11March 2026, with a most inspirational keynote speaker Professor A.B. Campbell. Speaking of Black History Month, we also bring you the Global Community Alliance gala ably hosted by Yomi and Kelly Pratt, and the African Day on the Hill by the African Canadain Association of Ottawa.

Other news of interest was the award of the prestigious Orléans Leading Women and Girls Recognition award to our former Associate Editor Dr. Kika Otiono, by Orleans MP Hon Marie France Lalonde.

Environmental activist Dr Andy Kusi Appiah weighs in with his piece: Lessons from the Kurukan Fuga for a Climate-Challenged World. Not to be left out, we provide our seniors with tips on taking care of their teeth, in celebration of Oral Health Month. Crossing the generation divide, we include our teens and their parents with the important article: Talk with your teen about substance use

All these and more in the April 2026 edition of your favourite news magazine.

Here is the result of our March 2026 poll: Were you satisfied with Canada’s performance at the recently concluded Winter Olympics? Yes 100% No 0%. Thank you to all who voted. Remember to vote in the April 2026 poll: Have you had enough of this winter?

Wishing you and your loved all the best for the rest of the season.
