Good morning folks
Welcome to the June 2025 edition of your favorite newspaper. Our Top Story features the work of expert photographer Obasola Bamigbola, who was the headliner at Ottawa’s first Afro-Canadian Visual Arts exhibition. Readers may remember some of his amazing photos from his reports as a volunteer reporter for Black Ottawa Scene. Bravo Obasola!
Father’s Day falls on Sunday 15 June 2025, and as is our tradition, we bring you tributes to those men who have sacrificed and striven to support, nurture and keep their families safe. Happy Father’s Day to one and all!
Other offerings for this month include our regular feature writer, Dr. Kwaku Kusi-Appiah with his piece: Tending Eden: Faith, Ethics, & the Call to Environmental Stewardship. Older adults and their families would be interested in the contribution from Ottawa Public Health on recognizing the signs of a stroke, one of the most silent killers of black folks. After a short absence, our Religion columnist, Rev Dan Joseph, makes a return with a new article: You Are Special. Another important feature is a book review by former veteran RCMP Officer Cal Lawrence, on the newly published: DEFUND Black Lives, Policing, and Safety for All.
All these and more in the June 2025 edition of Black Ottawa Scene.
Here is result of the May 2025 poll: Are you satisfied with the results of the Canadian federal election held on 28 April 2025? Yes 75 % No 25% Thank you to all who voted. Remember to participate in the June 2025 poll: Did you follow the visit of King Charles III to Canada in May 2025?
Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, peaceful and productive month of June.
