Good morning folks

Welcome to the February edition of your favorite Black news magazine in Canada’s national capital. Out Top Story is the official launch of the 2022 Black History Month in Ottawa.

In this edition, we pay homage to the renowned community leader and activist Dr. Glenda Simms, who passed away recently. We join our readers in expressing our condolences to her family. Also in this edition, we bring you the Dreamkeepers’ celebration of Martin Luther King Day in Ottawa, honouring outstanding community leaders. Speaking of awards, we bring you reports of the United Way Community Builder award for Warren Clarke, and a special health award to PSW Jane Mariki, one of those unsung heroes of the pandemic.

Olivia Barrett brings us a report on the webinar: Covid 19 vaccinations and the Black communities. Among our offerings this month are Hector Addison’s powerful essay: “Black Love- A love Like No Other”, and Onoshe Nwabuikwu‘s Nollywood movie review of Netflix’s “Chief Daddy 2”. Psychologist and career mentor Helen Ofosu delivers her insight on “Barriers to returning to work after the pandemic”

Here is the result of the January 2022 poll: Do you believe the new covid Omicron variant will be under control by June 2022? Yes 59% No 41% Thank you to all who voted. Remember to vote in the February 2022 poll: Do you support the truckers who have taken over downtown Ottawa in protest against pandemic rules and restrictions?

Wishing you and your loved ones all the best of the winter season.
