Good morning folks

Happy Labour Day. Hope you and your loved ones are enjoying the final days of this very hot summer. Black Canadian history takes centre stage in the September 2025 edition of your favourite news magazine. To start off, our Top Story is the “Freedom Train” ride to celebrate Emancipation Day in Ottawa, organized and orchestrated by iconic community leader, Adrienne Cordette. And speaking of Emancipation Day, we also bring you a report of a bus trip to Upper Canada Village by a group of Ottawa seniors to mark the occasion. The launch of the Lukasa Library focussed on Canadian Black history is also featured in this edition.

Our Entertainment Review brings you a stage play: “Josiah”, a powerful one-man play that brings a Canadian hero’s story to life. Regular columnist Prof Andy Kusi-Appiah also weighs in with his piece: “Richard Wagamese and the Black Canadian experience”.

From our community news desk we bring you a report form the Black Canadian Scholarship Fund with an announcement of their 2025 awards.

All these and more in the September 2025 edition of Black Ottawa Scene. Here is the result of the August 2025 poll: Do you support Canada’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state? Yes 67% No 33% Thank you to all who voted. Remember to vote in the September 2025 poll: In light of U.S. President Trump’s punitive tariffs against Canada, do you now make very effort to purchase Canadian-made goods, products and services?

Wishing you and your loved ones an enjoyable and peaceful month of September.
