Good morning folks
Happy November from Black Ottawa Scene, where we bring you the most uplifting and insightful news and features about Ottawa’s African, Caribbean and Black communities. This month’s offering starts with our Top Story, Rocsena Kidney Foundation’s fund-raising gala, which was also an opportunity to highlight the high risk of kidney disease for our community. Another newsmaker was iconic community leader and social justice advocate Rev. Anthony Bailey, who was honoured with a retirement reception by his many fans and supporters.
We also bring you the presentation to our seniors on Estate Planning, by renowned financial planner Meiz Majdoub. Also news of Black History expert and trailblazer Rosemary Sadlier who recently received a Human Rights Lifetime Achievement award. On a sad note, We bring you the obituary of Godfrey Obiaga, one of Nigeria’s earliest migrants to Canada and a highly respected community leader.
This month we continue our narrative of the achievements of our friend, mentor, unrelenting social justice advocate and staunch supporter of the city’s Black communities, Ottawa Centre MP Yasir Naqvi. Moving forwards, we will bring Yasir’s connections with the city’s diverse communities each and every month, with a column titled: “MP Yasir Naqvi connects with Ottawa residents”.
Finally we also include Flo’s Seniors launching of its Transportation Program, to assist and support Black seniors needing to commute to medical appointments and other important errands.
Here is the result of the October 2024 poll: Do you believe that domestic violence is on the rise in Canada? Yes 100% No 0% Thank to all who voted. Remember to vote in the November 2024 poll: Do you support getting rid of daylight saving time?
Wishing you and your loved ones a happy month of November.
