Over 200 people were in attendance at Ottawa’s City Hall to join in the celebration of the 2020 Martin Luther King Jnr day, hosted by the Dreamkeepers. . Mayor Jim Watson was there to read the city’s proclamation of 20 January as the official Martin Luther King day. The Dreamkeepers’ Citations for Outstanding Leadership were awarded to Ottawa’s iconic community advocate and activist Sarah Onyango, and Ottawa Police Officer Inspector Samir Bhatnagar, while the Life Achievement award went to former went to former provincial minister Michael Cote. The June Girvan Dreamkeepers’ Youth-in-Service award was given to Krystin Dumont. Keynote speaker was Dahabo Ahmed Omer Co-chair of the Justine for Abdirahman coalition and Chair of the Federation of Black Canadians.
