MayaSpoken Wins Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Title for the Second Time, Making History as the First Woman to Achieve the Honor.
The competition was held in Vancouver as part of their Verses Poetry Festival, April 16th to the 19th, 2025.
MayaSpoken has won the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS) title once again making her the second poet in the competition’s history to take home the title twice and first woman.
The Canadian Individual Poetry Slam showcases 24 of the country’s top slam poets, offering them a chance at representing Canada on international stages around the world. Maya was born and raised in Ottawa and has been an active member of the poetry scene here for over 10 years using her platform to spread messages of hope and advocacy.
As the second poet in Canadian history to win the title twice, MayaSpoken will now move on to represent Canada on the World Poetry Slam stage.
