
Community leader Moses Abayomi Pratt awarded King Charles III Coronation medal

Moses Abayomi Pratt was born in Lagos, Nigeria and immigrated to Ottawa, Canada in 1979 for his Post Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering at Algonquin College. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, Master’s Degree in Educational Administration at the University of Ottawa and later completed the requirements to obtain his Ontario College of Teachers Certification in science at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
Yomi started his teaching career in 1988 with the York Region Catholic District School Board in Toronto as a grade 6 teacher and later joined the Ottawa Catholic School Board in 1990. Over the years, he taught various grades at the Elementary level and later taught Intermediate Math and Science at Lester B. Pearson Catholic High School from 2010 until his retirement from teaching in June 2017.
Yomi is an active member of the Nigerian Community in Ottawa and a founding member of the Isokan Yoruba of Ottawa Association, a Nigerian Ethnic Group. Also, he is the founder and President of Global Community Alliance, a volunteer organization established in 2009 and well known for its annual gala and award ceremony during Black History Month to recognize the effort of individuals and businesses who are making or have made a difference within their community. The award categories for the annual GCA Gala include Community Builder Award, Professional Achievement, Business Achievement and Youth Achievement Awards.
Yomi has been married for 35 years to his wife Kelly and they are parents of 33 year old daughter, Tembeka and a 28 year old son, Lanre. Yomi is enjoying retirement and continues to share his expertise by organizing and facilitating interactive seminars focusing on Youth Empowerment, Financial Literacy Enhancement and Goal Oriented Personal Development.
