City Hall on Laurier Avenue was awash with the green and white colours of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as members of the Nigerian community joined city officials and diplomats from the Nigeria High commission at the first ever raising of the Nigerian flag, to commemorate the 54th anniversary of the country’s independence. Deputy High Commissioner Amb. Onianwa was there to welcome the guests, with messages of goodwill from Ottawa Deputy Mayor Steve Desroches, on behalf of City Council. A cake decorated in the country’s national colours of green, white and green was cut and shared by the guests.
