vigil-1

by Delta Reuben

On Friday, April 10th, students and Ottawa community members came together to remember those killed in the Garissa University attack which took place on April 2nd in Kenya. The candlelight vigil was organized by the East African Student Association of Carleton University (EASAC) who also welcomed a representative for the Kenya High Commission who came to show support and say a few words. Those who attended the event came together and sand the Canadian and Kenyan national anthem, there was a Quran recitation and dua, and some bible verses. As the supporters lined the hallway with candles lit and in hand, the moment of silence began. When the vigil concluded, supporters were thanked profusely by the EASAC for coming together and representing hope which is what the Kenyan community in Ottawa needed as well as Kenyans who are mourning in Kenya right now.
