Moses A. Mawa, Chairman & CEO of Silvertrust Media, as well as Patricia Bebia Mawa, President of Planet Africa Group and Executive Vice President of Silvertrust Media received the prestigious Civic Leadership Award for the year 2015 at the municipal headquarters of York Region, on January 20th 2016. Accomplished media professionals, Moses and Patricia have distinguished themselves by increasing understanding and harmony extraordinary leadership and impact.

Police Services Board Chair and Mayor of City of Markham, Frank Scarpitti, applauded the pair for going beyond the call of duty and fostering partnerships for positive change. “Moses and Patricia have spent a lot of time and effort working with various groups, promoting diversity, showing examples of leadership and supporting different cultural initiatives. This Award really speaks to their civic participation.”

“It is very special to see Moses and Patricia awarded for the work they do. This honour is very well deserved,” says York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe. Created in 2006 by The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board, the Award is given to recognize the highest level of excellence in Civic Leadership. “With this honour, we are challenged to do even more to advance diversity, harmony and innovation through our various media and event platforms,” says Moses A. Mawa.
The visionaries whom CNN called the “power couple”, run Silvertrust Media, a cutting-edge publishing, broadcasting, marketing and event management organization. They have produced over 20 magazine titles and boast 3 regular publications; namely Diversity, Destiny and Planet Africa. The company also produces three television shows that air on OMNI TV and Vision TV among others, including the internationally acclaimed Planet Africa Television show. The couple and their team of experienced professionals are preparing to launch Afroglobal Television, a 24-hour channel next month.
Prior to coming to Canada, Patricia was the Host of “Lunch Date”, a daily talk show with influential guests, and “Thinking About You”, an inspirational, live call-in show on DBN Television in Lagos, Nigeria. Listed in the Who’s Who in Black Canada, she holds a B.Sc. degree in Political Science from University of Calabar and a Multimedia diploma from Algonquin College of Science and Technology in Ottawa. Patricia is a recipient of the Toronto Police Community Service Award, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the International Women Achievers Award and the Martin Luther King Dream Keeper Award.
Moses holds a B.A. degree in Film Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa and is pursuing a Master of Arts in Leadership at Trinity Western University in Vancouver. He was trained at the Canadian Screen Training Centre as a multimedia and television producer. Moses received the Toronto Police Community Service Award; the National Ethnic Press & Media Council, Excellence in Media Award presented by the Lieutenant Governor; the Harry Jerome Media Award; the Reelworld Visionary Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
