On Saturday, October 25, 2014, the St. Lucia Ottawa Association presented its annual Jounen Kwèyól celebration at the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre. This year’s event, which was held under the distinguished patronage of Mr. Michael Willius, Consul General of St. Lucia in Toronto, featured a humorous skit as well as performances by a Montreal artist and by the folk band “Mamai La Caye” direct from St. Lucia. Guests also enjoyed traditional dances, a fashion show, and a wide variety of Creole delicacies.
“Jounen Kwèyól”, celebrated by Saint Lucia and other small Creole-speaking island nations, takes place every year on the nearest Sunday to the International Creole Day (Oct. 28th) and was first introduced in Saint Lucia in 1984.
