To mark the 35th Anniversary of Independence of their native country, the St. Vincent & The Grenadines Ottawa Association (SVGA) held an unforgettable evening! The Villa Marconi Banquet Hall was the venue for this black-tie, sold out event on November 8/2014 and it was indeed a huge success. The whole event was streamed live for the first time courtesy of Caribbean Connections TV, Toronto. With former SVG beauty queen and Caribbean Connections host Nicole Henderickson as the Master of Ceremony, guests were welcomed with champagne and appetizers as they walked the red carpet, mingled and captured photogenic memories. They also enjoyed a showcase of stunning fashions by Gifty’s couture. A key note address was delivered by the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines UN Ambassador, Her Excellency Rhonda King. The association’s youth group spiced up the evening with poetry and dance presentations. Appetites were treated to a full course gourmet meal with wine and a variety of delicious desserts. Live entertainment was provided by Montreal based band, Julian McIntosh & the Caribbean Thunderbolts.  The great local soca DJs David Supersound & Selekta Shellz, had the dance floor on fire with sweet tunes. Completing the event was the awards presentation; the appreciation award was presented to Maria Pecoralla State Farm Insurance, a local community-focused business that has supported the SVG Ottawa Association for many years. Suzette Weekes, a passionate advocate for the advancement of children and youth, and community engagement received the volunteer award. The local scholarship award went to Arian Allen, an ambitious and active young member of the association. The SVG Ottawa Association is very appreciative of the generous sponsorship and donations from local businesses, individuals and organizations.
