Cynthia Oreggio Campbell: A Life Rooted in Strength, Love, and Legacy
by Ken Campbell
Cynthia Oreggio Campbell was a remarkable woman whose life embodied resilience, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to family. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Cynthia’s influence reached far beyond her immediate family, touching generations and communities with quiet strength and enduring love.
Born on January 14, 1939, in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica, Cynthia was shaped by the richness of Jamaican culture, its strong sense of community, perseverance, and joy. These values remained with her throughout her life and became the foundation upon which she built her family and guided her children.
As a young woman, Cynthia moved to Kingston, where she met the love of her life, Winston Constantine Campbell. Together, they created a home grounded in love, faith, discipline, and unity. Their partnership was one of shared vision and deep commitment, centered on providing their children with opportunity, stability, and strong values.
Cynthia was the proud mother of Desmond, Johnny, Kenneth, Noel, Cynthia, and Winston. Each child carries forward her lessons, her strength, and her unwavering belief in the power of hard work and self-respect.
In 1970, Cynthia made a courageous decision that would define the course of her family’s future-she migrated to Canada in search of greater opportunity. For four years, she worked tirelessly, often facing significant challenges, driven by a singular purpose: to create a better life for her children. Her sacrifice bore fruit when she reunited her family in Canada on September 6, 1976, a moment that marked the beginning of a new chapter built on hope and determination.
Cynthia was known for her quiet strength and steadfast character. She believed deeply in education, discipline, and mutual respect. Her home was a place of warmth and encouragement, where expectations were high but love was always unconditional. She taught her children to stand tall, care for one another, and persevere with dignity no matter the circumstances.
Her legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, each blessed by her guidance, wisdom, and love. Beyond her family, Cynthia’s kindness and integrity left a lasting impression on friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Reflections from Her Children
Her daughter, Cynthia, affectionately known as “Precious”, fondly remembers that some of her most treasured moments were simply being in her mother’s presence: talking, laughing, sharing stories, or sitting quietly together. Cynthia had a gift for making even the simplest moments feel meaningful. Her warmth, humor, and comforting presence remain deeply cherished.
Her son Kenneth recalls his mother as a woman of extraordinary determination and courage. Through her example, she taught him the value of hard work, compassion, and perseverance. Her belief in him and her steady guidance continue to inspire him each day.
An Enduring Legacy
Cynthia Oreggio Campbell lived a life defined by grace, generosity, and unwavering compassion. She believed in nurturing the next generation and creating spaces where love, culture, and unity could thrive. Her gentle wisdom, radiant smile, and quiet resolve were hallmarks of her character, both within her family and throughout the wider community.
Though she passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario, Cynthia’s spirit lives on through the values she instilled and the lives she shaped. Her story is one of courage, sacrifice, and enduring love, a testament to what it means to build a legacy rooted in faith, resilience, and family.
Cynthia Oreggio Campbell will always be remembered not only for what she gave, but for how she lived-with purpose, strength, and a heart full of love.
