On Saturday, September 20, 2014, the Trinidad & Tobago Association of Ottawa presented a colourful gala dinner at Tudor Banquet Hall to celebrate their twin islands’ 38th year as a republic. Ottawa Chief of Police Charles Bordeleau, Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner designate, and various presidents of Caribbean associations were among the VIPs in attendance. Guests were treated to live music by a steelpan jazz duo and a classical Indian dance performance. Other highlights of the event included tributes to cultural icons David Bostic (president of Club S.O.C.C.A.) and Ashton Hughes (leader of the popular Nepean Panharmonic Steel Band) as well as the presentation of C.L.R. James scholarships to local students.
