Rideau Community Hub (formerly Rideau High School) was a hive of activities last Saturday as over 50 Black locally owned businesses showcased their products and services at the Ujamaa market. Hosted by Jaku Konbit, one of the national capital’s best known Black community organisations, under the leadership of its President Ken Campbell, the event attracted hundreds of people of all ages looking for the product of their choice. Ujamaa Market (Cooperative Economics) promotes the opportunity to build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together. It provides opportunities to support locally based businesses and and increase their profitability while at the same time giving the buyers reasonably priced good quality products. The variety of products was extensive: jewelry, health and beauty products, fine clothing, carvings and sculptures, paintings, and more.
