Charina Betty – An example to our youth in Ottawa Church of God
by Carol Daley Campbell
Charina Betty is a dedicated community leader, mentor, and advocate with nearly two decades of experience serving children, youth, young adults, and marginalized communities through ministry, nonprofit leadership, and the public service. Her work is rooted in community engagement, leadership development, and creating safe, empowering spaces where individuals can grow, lead, and thrive.
She currently serves in several leadership roles within the Church of God in Ontario, including as a Board Member for Young Adults and Girls’ Ministries, and as the Young Adults Leader at Ottawa Church of God. Across these roles, she planned and led retreats, Bible studies, mentorship initiatives, and empowerment events focused on nurturing the next generation of leaders and fostering strong community connections. She has also supported youth development through curriculum planning, leadership training, and one-on-one mentoring.
Beyond church leadership, she has a long-standing commitment to community outreach and philanthropy. As a Team Captain with City Kidz for 15 years, she has worked closely with children and families in low-income communities, building trust through consistent engagement, home visits, and supportive programming. She served on the Board of Directors for the Tune In Foundation, supporting arts-based education and youth empowerment, and coordinated scholarship award ceremonies for Hamilton’s African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc., celebrating academic excellence and community service among youth of African and Caribbean heritage.
In her professional career at Global Affairs Canada, she serves as a Program Advisor while advocating for equity and inclusion in the public service. Her advocacy extends through leadership roles with the Black Employees Network, the Visible Minority Network, and as a Human Rights Representative with the Union of National Employees, where she supports workplace equity, inclusion, and the advancement of human rights.
Across all areas of her life, faith, work, and community, she is committed to mentoring, advocacy, community safety, and uplifting others, particularly children, youth, and underrepresented communities, so they are equipped to lead with confidence, purpose, and integrity.
Congratulations Charina well deserved
