Mother said “ I love you “

By Maya Basudde

Mother said “I love you” in many different ways, making sure to show it through her actions and not only with a phrase

Mother said “I love you”  she said it every day, but what made it really special was it wasn’t always said the same

Mother said “I love you” as she rubbed me in her tummy, telling her friends and family that there was a baby coming,

Mother said “I love you” as she held me in her arms, kissed me on my forehead and kept me safe from harm

Mother said “I love you” on my first day of school, making my hair look real nice just so I’d look cool

Mother said “I love you”  as she parted my hair into two fours, combing through my kinky hair as my tears crashed onto the floor

Mother said “I love you”  as she checked under my bed, just to assure me that the monsters were made up in my head

Mother said “I love you” when father passed away, held me at the funeral and said we’d be okay

Mother said “I love you”  every time I went to sleep, taught me how to pray to the Lord for my soul to keep

Mother said “I love you” every time she was in the kitchen, her food tastes so good a meal wasn’t something you’d be missing !

Mother said “I love you” every time she went to work, never once did she complain about how her back would hurt

Mother said “I love you” every time she would come to a show, out of all of the people in front of me I could never miss her glow

Mother said “I love you” and I’m so thankful that she did because without her I don’t think I would have turned out like this

Often we take our mothers for granted and we forget to tell them that we love them too

And so this mother’s day that it what i’ve come to do

Dear Mom,

You are the sunshine bursting through the clouds after a storm

You are the fireplace that burns bright just to keep me warm

You are a blessing that I will never forget to thank God for

For you mom, I will always be thankful.
