On Monday 29th August 2016 Mrs Anita Dorothy Harris celebrated her 100th birthday with a party along with family and friends. Known to many as Miss Dor, Aunt Dorothy, Aunt D and to some in attendance as grandma the celebrations to mark her birthday started with a special mass held in her honour at Our Lady of Assumption Church Ottawa which was lead by Pastor: Rev. Pedro Arana. This was followed by a party, which was jointly organised by the members of Our Lady of Assumption Church where she has been attending for over 30 years and her family.
Also present on the occasion were The High Commissioner for Jamaica to Canada, Her Excellency Janice Miller, The Deputy High Commissioner Mrs. Cyeth Denton-Watts and Councillor Mathieu Fleury who was there on behalf of the Mayor of Ottawa The Honourable Jim Watson.
Among the many certificates received notable mentions include The High Commissioner for Jamaica presenting to her a letter from Her Majesty the Queen as well as The Jamaican High Commission of Ottawa. She also received presentations on behalf of The Governor-General’s of Jamaica and Canada and from The Mayor of Ottawa and Councillor Fleury.
